Shriya hot in Pistha/ThoranaiThoranai (Pistha, in telugu) is a forthcoming Indian Tamil film that stars Vishal and Shriya Saran in the lead roles, whilst, supporting actor Prakash Raj plays another prominent role. Directed by debutant Iyappan, and produced by Vishal’s home company, GK Films. The film is currently in its filming stage and is expected to release in late 2009. The film is titled Pistha, for its simultaneously filmed Telugu version. |

I'm NOT a Lesbian: Neetu Chnadra Denying rumours that she got carried away while shooting a provocative male fantasy photo shoot for the cover of a men’s magazine, actress Neetu Chandra (of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!) has stated, “I very much knew what I was doing and never got carried away. But if there is even an iota of doubt in anyone’s mind, let me make it clear once and for all that I am not a lesbo.”  It can be recalled that Neetu was shooting for the cover of ‘The Man’ magazine with a model outside the lobby of a 3- star hotel last week, when a group of regular male customers started shouting “Jai Maharashtra” slogans and threatened action from Raj Thackeray’s Maharashrtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). They even tried to confiscate the camera, resulting in the shoot having to be abruptly called off. Neetu had termed them as “some frustrated men, who just wanted my attention. When they didn’t get it, they started making a scene about the shoot and threatening us.”  Now there has been talk about some activists planning to burn copies of the said magazine when its issue carrying Neetu’s images releases next week, alleging that the images have lesbian connotations. But Neetu flatly denies the charge. “It’s about two girls getting intimate to arouse male interest. And that doesn’t mean it’s about lesbianism,” she reiterates. She says the shoot has been done so aesthetically that several Bollywood biggies have complimented her after the pictures made its way into television channels and papers even before the magazine hit the stands. “I am getting so many congratulatory phone calls, SMS’s and emails,” says Neetu and adds that even her family members in the conservative city of Patna, instead of being embarrassed, have praised the pictures. |

Juggan Kazim, Tongue Piercing, Up-CloseEven though Frank Sinatra might have fancied these words about his life, I think they are better suited for our Juggan Kazim. This girl, is a rebel, in the best tradition of the word. What she has accomplished in her short life is an inspiration for girls out there. She had worked in plays and was a movie star in the west, much before we knew her as a television personality in Pakistan. When fate dealt her a blow and she separated from her husband, she chose to go it alone, rather than fall back on her parents. A single mother, meeting the demands of family and career, especially in our neck of the woods, is a singular achievement. For a woman to manage it within the traditional framework, set by our patriarchal culture, is an uphill task. But to be beautiful and sexy, independent and forthright, yet maintain one’s integrity –in our time– is nothing short of amazing. And in keeping with that spirit, we discover her love for piercings; tongue piercing in particular. A universally acknowledged symbol for expressing one’s individuality and personality, it is also said to enhance one’s, shall we say, social life. There is a definite exotic and sensual appeal to a tongue piercing. One can only imagine how it would feel wrapped around one’s tongue, or rubbing against something even more sensitive. I don’t know where these desi girls are getting them done but these days, aside from the tongue piercing, you do spot the occasional eyebrow, lip and belly piercings. It just gets the wheels turning as to what, where and how many more is s/he holding out on us. Before we wrap this up, something ought to be said about the particular placement of the piercing on the tongue. Whether it’s near the tip, or further back, depends on what it’s going to be used for, or on. I’ll let you decide what we have going on here. If it’s ever going to be used for anything other than the aesthetic appeal, of course. |
